7:00 pm, Wednesday, April 15
Alderney Landing Theatre, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Join us for this cabaret-style celebration of the best Atlantic Canadian books of the past year, co-hosted by CBC Radio’s Stephanie Domet (winner of the 2008 Margaret and John Savage First Book Award) and actor/humorist, Bill Carr.
Mingle with the literary community and members of the book publishing industry to raise a toast to the authors, illustrators, and publishers who gave us such great reading material over the past year.
New this year, entertainment by local performers/musicians who are also authors and publishers, including spoken word artist Shautay Grant, Stephen Clare, and bluegrass trio, Grassmarket.
Admission is free. Cash bar. Donations of new or gently used children’s books will be gratefully accepted for Feed the Mind.
Bill Carr is known as an actor, humorist writer and motivational speaker. For over twenty years Bill has been making people laugh at what’s trivial while helping them think about what counts. His thirty-year career has seen him perform on stages across the country most notably here in Nova Scotia at Neptune Theatre, Mermaid Theatre and the Atlantic Theatre Festival.
He has written and performed in numerous radio dramas for CBC and has made appearances on countless television programs, several movies and more advertisements than he’d care to think about.
Stephanie Domet is a writer-broadcaster who lives in Halifax. She owns a baby grand piano, a guitar and two harmonicas. She doesn’t play any of them, but if you happen to drop by her place, you’d be welcome to.
You may have heard her on CBC Radio, read her work in the Halifax Daily News, The Coast, or Halifax Magazine, or seen her in the 2005 Atlantic Fringe Festival performing her one-woman show called Cogswell!, or at the Atlantic Film Festival, performing in a film of the same name. Her book Homing won the Margaret and John Savage First Book Award.
