Tara Thorne

Tara Thorne is a recovering journalist, occasional filmmaker, and arts admin worker. She spent 20 years at alt-weekly The Coast, 15 at CBC Radio, and two hosting the award-winning arts and culture podcast The Tideline. Her debut feature film Compulsus, about a lesbian vigilante, was released in Canada by Vortex Media in 2024. Her ensemble comedy follow-up, Lakeview, has screened on four continents at festivals including BFI Flare, Frameline, Mardi Gras, Inside Out, and Outfest NEXT. She has worked in administrative capacities for many Nova Scotia-based organizations including the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative, the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival, Screen Nova Scotia, and WIFT-AT. She is the author of the essay collection Low Road Forever (Nimbus). Tara lives her gay little life with two cats in north end Halifax.
