During the Atlantic Book Awards and Festival, we spend a lot of time celebrating the final stages – this event will focus on those first steps! So, if you’re a writer working on something new, want to hear and give feedback on new work, come and share with other writers in the same boat! Jacqueline and Melanie will read from their nominated work and you are invited to bring your works in progress to share with the group as well!

Jacqueline Halsey

Originally from the UK Jacqueline Halsey has lived in Dartmouth Nova Scotia for nearly 40 years. She has written seven highly acclaimed books, mostly inspired by her love of history, the ocean and all things Maritime. Her middle-grade novel Piper was a nominee for the 2019 CCBC Geoffrey Bilson Award for children’s historical fiction.

Melanie Mosher

Melanie Mosher has been putting words to paper ever since she took home a silver dollar as the top prize in an essay writing contest in grade two. Just like Bertie Stewart she loves cookies, trees, and snow angels. She also keeps a “toolbox” full of ways to manage her inside voice. Her first middle grade novel, A Beginner’s Guide to Goodbye, was a finalist for the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award and shortlisted for the Hackmatack Award.
